Hello everybody!!

A friend of mine has been having trouble with her laptop lately. It's a Gateway MX3225 running Windows XP SP2. After a few scans, I realized it's full of malware. The easiest route at this point is a full system restore, which brings me to my problem...

Once I boot up to the system recovery, I receive an error saying "System restore environment is incomplete." When I press ok, it asks to insert cd/dvd 1. Only problem is my friend never had a recovery disc or windows disc to begin with. I know there is a recovery partition and I thought I would have been able to to a full system restore from the partition rather than from a disc.

It looks like I should have a choice as to where I want to recover from (HDD or discs) but it jumps right into the error without giving me a choice.

So my question would be if there's a way to recover from the partition or is it there to just tease me?

I know I can order a recovery disc from Gateway but I'm trying not to go that route.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Luis

I stumbled upon those links last night but thanks anyway.

She needs it for her job and I was trying to see if there was a workaround to get this restored before Monday. If getting a recovery disc is my only choice then I'll have to go for it.
