Hijackthis Log, Could use some help.

Okay, so. I'm new to the Bleeping Computer forums. I've always used them for when I needed help, just never had to actually post before.

Seems I found the one I can't figure out on my own.


I got this laptop about 2 weeks ago. Soon after getting it I found that the previous owner had gotten the Vundo virus, along with several other less threatening viruses. I was able to get rid of them using Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, Vundofix, and Adaware.


I thought it had ended, but about 2 days later one of my Svchost.exe processes started using insane amounts of memory, upwards of 100mb, with 50-100% CPU usage. I can close the process, but it does eventually come back(Due to processes that I inevitably restart, such as my sound card). I've used process explorer to attempt to fix it, and have been unable to find the cause - I can close every process within it(Seperately) and it still does it.


If it's any help, I also can't access any of the sites ate update.microsoft.com I've tried to do it on three different browsers(IE, Firefox, Chrome), and all three said the connection was interrupted or the page could not be loaded. This is another issue that I'm unable to fix, which makes me think they may both be linked together, possible with the Windows Update Client, as that seems to have caused the Svchost issue for other people.


Any help is greatly appreciated, and if you need more info just tell me what is needed. I've spent a week searching for this, and so far have been unable to find anyone with the exact same problem. Many people have had a problem like it, but none of their fixes have worked for me. I'm new to Hijackthis, so I really don't understand the results of it, so please don't be too confusing with your analysis.

And after seeing where this is posted, I may have put it in the wrong section? I simply clicked a link out of a Hijackthis Tutorial on the website, assumed it would put me in the right section but it doesn't seem to have done so.

It seems to be getting progressively worse, my computer now randomly crashes to black screen after being on for awhile, as well as gets Iexplore processes upon restart. Gonna try running the usuals one more time.

  • Refrain from making any changes to your computer including installing/uninstall programs, deleting files, modifying the registry, and running scanners or tools. Doing so could cause changes to the directions I have to give you and prolong the time required.     Click Start, open My Computer, select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
    Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
    Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    Click Yes to confirm.

Download Combofix from any of the links below but rename it to before saving it to your desktop.

Double click on the renamed Combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.



Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:



Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper
