CPU running 100%

Am working on a customers Box. Dell 4600/XP Pro SR2/512MB Ram. Problem started when customer got message on desktop "warning your in Danger". Probably AutoGold. Also network connection shows limited or no connectivity. Task Master showing CPU 100%. Customer is running Norton. I ran SFC and it loaded a couple of module from XP Disk. Cpu still running 100% and Taskmaster shows Svchost running at 98% of Cpu. Svchost can be deleted and percentage goes down but I still have no Internet access. Can't get out to update and Spyware or Virus Programs.

Hi fleettech and Welcome to the Bleeping Computer!

Download a program called LSPfix. Here's the link where to get it:

Run the program and follow these directions:

1. Run LSPFix.
2. Check "I know what I'm doing"
3. Select all instances of fltmgr.dll
4. Click the right-pointing arrow (moves it to the "remove" page).
5. Click "Finished"


Download WinPFind:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/winpfind.php

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!


Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.


Open HijackThis and click on the "Open Misc Tools Section"-> Now click the "Delete a File on Reboot" tab!

When the small explorer window pops up-> Navigate to this file c:\windows\system32\fltmgr.dll

Double Click the file and follow the prompts to let HijackThis reboot the PC!


Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)

Search for and Delete if found

Open HijackThis and put a check by these but DO NOT hit the Fix Checked button yet!

Now Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and hit the Fix Checked Button!


Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and Scan the entire System With Ewido-> Clean all it finds and be sure to click the tab to Save a Report!


From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder!


Run MSCONFIG and enable everything in the startup area. To get to MSCONFIG, click on Start -> Run -> type in MSCONFIG -> click OK!

Under the "General" Tab
Make Sure Normal Startup is Checked!!

Click Apply>>Close>>Follow the Prompts to Restart!!

Restart Normal and have the PC Scanned here:
Panda Active Scan

You will need to be using Internet Explorer for the Scan to work!

Save the Report it generates


Post back with a fresh HijackThis log and the reports from WinPFind-> Ewido and Panda!
