The other functions work: print, copy, fax. The scanner will work with Microsoft's scanner/camera wizard, but things can pretty much only be scanned as jpegs. The HP software has an option for scanning to a pdf file. I would be happy with either getting the HP software to work or using another software that will allow scanning to pdf. I have Windows XP. I tried installing from the original CD. I tried downloading and installing drivers from the HP site. I read something that said the scanner is both twain and wia compliant.

I know Adobe Acrobat 9 software has that ability, but it is not available in their free software. However the purchased version does allow the saving of a document as a pdf file but retails for about $99.00 US Dollars.

If your interested in a freeware version, best place to look is at the cnet website at http://www.cnet.com I could point you toward a program, but I am not sure what meets your needs, so I suggest you quarry the words pdf software and pick the one that fits your needs.

Or try this link below which is already linked to a list of PDF freeware at CNET.
