Well, I do not know if telling the symptoms does any good, the same ole ones: Task Manager disabled, messages of "your computer needs to be sacnned for viruses" new porn icons in my desktop, etc. etc. etc. I can only say I suspect Rootkit/backdoor activity in both my pc and laptop because the first thing I did was to update and run HJT and S&D and they found nothing. So I followed the instructions of these forums. I forgot to turn the CD emulator software off, if I have one, whatever they are. Here are the logs anyway. I hope someone knowledgeable can loook at them and help me and tell me if I have to run the scans again with the emulator off.
Thanks for looking

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

Please include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Please refrain from running tools or applying updates other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

Even if you have already provided information about your PC, we need a new log to see what has changed since you originally posted your problem.
We need to create an OTL Report
  1. Please download OTL from one of the following mirrors:
  2. Save it to your desktop.
  3. Double click on the icon on your desktop.
  4. Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  5. In the custom scan box paste the following:
    CODE
    msconfig
    safebootminimal
    activex
    drivers32
    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe

    %systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.sys /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav
    %systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.sys /90
  6. Push the button.
  7. Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:
    • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Extra.txt<--Will be minimized

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. I suggest you do this and select Immediate E-Mail notification and click on Proceed. This way you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.

regards myrti

is that a bird?  a plane? nooo it's the flying blueberry!

If I have been helping you and haven't replied in 2 days, feel free to shoot me a PM! Please don't send help request via PM, unless I am already helping you. Use the forums!

Yes I did. Initially I cleaned my laptop following a thread I posted @ Majorgeeks. I still suspect some rootkit activity in my laptop. One night that I couldn't sleep. I turned it on at about 2:00am and noticed that there were two connection to the internet, one of them was my regular home wireless conection and the other one said "Unidentified Connection" I was affraid what that was and decided to post a thread in this forum. This happened after I had suposedly cleaned it

Hi,

your PC will detect any wireless network in your surrounding, but it should only be able to connect to one wireless network if you have one wireless card. So if it was connected to your own network it probably wasn't connected to the unidentified one.
Could you please link me to your topic at majorgeeks. Do you have any other symptoms besides the connection?

It seems you had Internet Explorer running while you ran the scan with gmer. Could you please close all open programs and run a new scan with gmer.

Hello!
About that internet wireless connection: I rolled my mouseover the icon in the tray in the lower right corner of my screen and it said "Currently connected to:" and t here were two rows, the upper one showed my Netgear connection, the one under it showed another connection, I think I remember it said "unidentified". then I went to Control Panel>Network and Sharing Center>Connect to a network and searched for that unidentified network in all available connections to try and disconnect from it but it wasn't there. Now when I go to bed I just turn the swith of the built in wireles card off in my laptop. I hope this thing is not residing in my modem. My ISP is the cable company.

Here is the link to my Majorgeeks thread

About IE running while gmer did the scan. That is one weird thing, I could've sworn I closed everything before I ran the scan since I thought I knew better. If I indeed did close it and it still shows as running, that could be yet another weird thing I see in my poor laptop. However I ran it again and here is the log:

GMER 1.0.15.15281 - http://www.gmer.net
Rootkit scan 2010-05-18 20:22:11
Windows 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2
Running: gmer.exe; Driver: C:\Users\Irma\AppData\Local\Temp\kxldrpow.sys

---- User IAT/EAT - GMER 1.0.15 ----

IAT C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE[1908] @ C:\Windows\system32\ole32.dll [msvcrt.dll!free] [6A3CF3FB] C:\Windows\AppPatch\AcSpecfc.DLL (Windows Compatibility DLL/Microsoft Corporation)

---- EOF - GMER 1.0.15 ----

Then I realized I had Windows Defender in real-time protection and went ahead and turned it off and then I ran it again. It said it did not find anything. This time though I did not uncheck any of the choices GMer gives to you before it scans, all the boxes were checked in the first and second scan.

I appreciate your help

Hi,

your logs are clean. Just to be safe I would run an online scan with Eset:
  1. Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  2. Click the button.
  3. For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    1. Click on to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    2. Double click on the icon on your desktop.
  4. Check
  5. Click the button.
  6. Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  7. Check
  8. Push the Start button.
  9. ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  10. When the scan completes, push
  11. Push , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  12. Push the button.
  13. Push

Do you remember deleting the Avi-player form I've found recently?

Honestly? I don't remember. I think I did. I even uninstalled it. That must have deleted any quarantined items, right? I also meant to ask you: Some Icons in my desktop show a small shield-like image in one corner. They are the icons to the programs I downloaded because of this infection. I though only shortcuts had it but both SAS and MBAM are shortcuts yet only MBAM shows the shield. then I thought Windows Defender was doing it but I shut it off and after restarting it the shields are still in those icons. Do you have any idea about what this is?
Here are the images of some Icons Gmer and Rootrepeal both have it too.

Hi,

that should be fine. It is a normal Windows procedure, which should be undone in our final steps.

Is your PC running fine?
