Can anyone suggest a barebones that's reasonably priced that I can use her old IDE HD's?

I'd be building this for my niece (since they don't have a great deal of money) and her family and will use her old HD's since most MB's only have one IDE cable and that'll be the cheapest way to go since I'll buy a new Sata-DVD burner instead of using that on the IDE cables.

She's got a laptop, but needs one for the kids so they don't screw hers up.

what do you want for specs?
or are you basing solely on price?

"Reasonably priced" is about as vague as one can get...beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Maximum cash?

You need PSU and case...and RAM...and motherboard?

Better yet, what do you think that you have already...that can go into this system?

Have an O/S to install?

Laptops are inexpensive these days...inventory buildup...and netbook failures are now more readily recognized by buyers (before puchasing).

Not sure what I'm going to do with her old desktop computer. Not sure if the problem is the PS or the MB. Won't start. Would love to get it going and make it a DVR with a TV tuner card in it.

Does the old computer try to do anything or is it deaf & blind?

No noise, fan on chip just barely moves (1/2 turn) and the light on the front is on, but not much else. Have tried removing ram, nothing, tried a different PS, nothing.

But, the PS was good according to a tester, but it wasn't on a load at that time. But, it's got to be either the PS or MB.
