Instead of creating a desktop icon consider adding the link to your favorites instead
That way you will avoid desktop clutter and the favs can be organized, sorted and grouped however you like them
Easy to backup as well

To do that, click on the favorites menu then click add to favorites
In the beginning there was the command line.

Hi miniman1,
If you're using Windows XP, just right click on the page and scroll down to "Create Shortcut". You will be asked to confirm that you want to create a shortcut on your desktop, click yes and there you go. I can't say if this works in Vista or 7.

Hope this helps,

Mike

Just did this and it worked in Windows 7. At the top of the first page of Bleeping Computer copy http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/315720/desktop-icons/.
Right click on desktop go to New/Shortcut and past and follow the instruction. It work great for me.

With most browsers, simply dragging and dropping the site's favicon onto the desktop will create a shortcut.
