I'm not sure if I've got a virus or not. I tried the following programs and so far nothing has come up.
  • AntiVir
  • MalwareBytes
  • Ad-aware
  • AVG
  • Bulldog
  • Spybot S&D
They've only detected small trackin cookies however I did get a trojan a few days ago but Bulldog put that one to quarantine.
All of them are updated to their latest definitions and yet no discoveries.

My boot up is slower than its been before and so is my general performance.
Any ideas?

Hi tjboo

Let's check to see if there may be a security program conflict:

Download Security Check from here or here.
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please copy and paste the contents of that document in your next reply.
Thanks

Hi tjboo

Thanks for that.

AVG 9.0 ...... Antivirus
Avira AntiVir Personal .... Antivirus
BullGuard 8.7 ..... Antivirus & Firewall.

This is certainly not helping your problem: especially with the Windows Firewall enabled!

It is not recommend that you have more than one anti virus product installed and running on your computer at a time. The reason for this is that if both (or more) products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as these products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection. In general terms, having more than one program may cause conflicts and also cause:
1) False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.
2) System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
Therefore please go to add/remove in the control panel and remove two of these:
AVG 9.0
Avira AntiVir Personal
BullGuard 8.7

given that you have:
Ad-Aware
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

on your system, i'd be inclined to keep Avira AntiVir .... but obviously it's your decision on what to keep
.

When you have removed 2 of those programs:

Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
  • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Let me know if things have improved after this.

Thanks

Thanks for the help but still hasn't cured the issue. When I type my PW into the login the Welcome bit takes so much longer than it used to. I can't put my finger on why. I must be infected somehow but the virus is still letting me update my Antivirus programs and is somehow still not being detected....

Any ideas/suggestions?

  • Download OTL to your desktop.
if you have problems, try this download link:
    OTL
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check
.

Hi tjboo

The infection seems to have been removed.
There's a little registry cleaning to do though, so we'll get that done and then double check everything with an online scan.

Just one thing.... you kept Bullguard Internet Security, which comes with a Firewall... have you turned off the Windows Firewall.
It was showing as active in the security check.

How to turn off Windows Firewall:
Start ... Control Panel ...click on 'Classic View'.
now select Windows Firewall.
When the Windows Firewall box opens, put a tick against .. Off (not recommended) and then click Ok

Step 1
Double click on OTL.exe to run it.
Copy the lines in the codebox below. (make sure that :Otl is on the first line )
:Otl
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - No CLSID value found.
O3 - HKLM\..\Toolbar: (no name) - {CCC7A320-B3CA-4199-B1A6-9F516DD69829} - No CLSID value found.
O3 - HKLM\..\Toolbar: (no name) - Locked - No CLSID value found.
O20 - HKLM Winlogon: VMApplet - (/pagefile) - File not found
O21 - SSODL: WebCheck - {E6FB5E20-DE35-11CF-9C87-00AA005127ED} - CLSID or File not found.
O33 - MountPoints2\E\Shell - "" = AutoRun
O33 - MountPoints2\E\Shell\AutoRun\command - "" = E:\LaunchU3.exe -- File not found

:Files
C:\Program Files\AVG
C:\ProgramData\avg9

:commands
[emptytemp]
[purity]
[RESETHOSTS]
[EMPTYFLASH]
  • Return to OTL,
  • right click in the Custom Scans/Fixes window (under the blue bar) and choose Paste.

    Posted Image
  • Click the red Run Fix button.

    Posted Image
  • OTL will reboot your system once the fix has completed.
  • After the reboot, you may need to double click OTL to launch the program and retrieve the log.
Copy and paste the contents of the OTL log that comes up after the fix in your next reply.

if you lose the report, there will be a copy here:
C:\_OTL\MovedFiles

Step 2
I'd like you to do an ESET OnlineScan
  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on Posted Image to download the ESET Smart Installer.
      Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Click the Start button.
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push Posted Image
  • Click Posted Image, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan.
Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Click Posted Image
A log file will be saved here: C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET Online Scanner\log.txt

In your next reply, please submit:
OTL fix report
Eset scan report

Thanks.
