I keep getting this popup telling me it can't find the file L:\autorun.exe, another popup, L:\ is not accessable. The request could not be performed because of an I/0 device error. Another, Error, An unspecified error occurred on the render thread. For detailed info please see LELA"S log file. And another, Error deploying the magicJack loader.exe. Access denied or file in use. It can be used by other application or sustem. This magicjack error popped up about 20 error windows one after the other till I had a screen full of them and the program was actually loading at the same time. All this is after I had to restore my computer from an earlier problem. A few weeks ago I got a popup wanting to scan my computer for viruses. I clicked the X in the top right corner and it started running anyway. Soon after that my network connection didn't work anymore and various programs started malfuntioning. I did a system restore to a date prior to the problems. My computer seemed to be working right after the restore although I didn't get my network working again. Now it seems that the problems are starting again. This time it's messing with my MagicJack phone service and possibly facebook and I am seeing glitches with other programs. I've run AdAware, Spybot search and destroy, and MalwareBytes and cleaned all the found problems. I had 62 in malwarebytes alone including registry entries. I run AVG antivirus daily and it finds nothing. I tried following the preparation guide for creating logs before asking for help but when I get to number 8 I am unable to complete the GMER scan because my computer shuts down and restarts and I get this error message.

.Blue screen error caused by a device or driver
You received this message because a hardware device, its driver, or related software has caused a blue screen error. This type of error means the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from potential data corruption or loss. In this case, we were unable to detect the specific device or driver that caused the problem.
The following troubleshooting steps might prevent the blue screen error from recurring. Try them in the order given. If one step does not solve the problem, then move on to the next one.
Steps to solve this problem...

I did get the DDS logs and the HiJack this log if that helps.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer! welcome.gif

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

I have a new DDS log but I still can't get GMER to complete a scan without freezingup the computer and having to do a hard shut down. Hello.

I'm Extremeboy and I will continue to help you here.

Can you run a Rootrepeal scan for me, if it doesn't work let me know...

Download and run RootRepeal CR

Please download RootRepeal from the following location and save it to your desktop.
  • Unzip the RootRepeal.zip file it to it's own folder. (If you did not use the "Direct Download" mirror to download RootRepeal).
  • Close/Disable all other programs especially your security programs (anti-spyware, anti-virus, and firewall) Refer to this page, if you are unsure how.
  • Physically disconnect your machine from the internet as your system will be unprotected.
  • Double-click on RootRepeal.exe to run it. If you are using Vista, please right-click and run as Administrator...
  • Click the tab at the bottom.
  • Now press the button.
  • A box will pop up, check the boxes beside All Seven options/scan area
  • Now click OK.
  • Another box will open, check the boxes beside all the drives, eg : C:\, then click OK.
  • The scan will take a little while to run, so let it go unhindered.
  • Once it is done, click the Save Report button.
  • Save it as RepealScan and save it to your desktop
  • Reconnect to the internet.
  • Post the contents of that log in your reply please.

Did you try running GMER in safe mode?

If GMER doesn't work in Normal Mode try running it in Safe Mode.

Also, can you give me an update of the current condition of your machine please? What problems, symptoms and issues do you still have with the computer right now?

Thanks.
Note: Please do not PM me asking for help, instead please post it in the correct forum requesting for help. Help requests via the PM system will be ignored.

Ok I got Gmer to run in safe Mode. The log file doesn't look like the one in the example though.

My machine is still messing up. A few weeks ago I got a popup wanting to scan my computer for viruses. I clicked the X in the top right corner and it started running anyway. I'm not sure if it was running a scan or installing malware. Soon after that my network connection didn't work anymore and various programs started malfuntioning. I did a system restore to a date prior to the problems. My computer seemed to be working ok after the restore although I didn't get my network working again. Now it seems that the problems are starting again. This time it's messing with my MagicJack phone service and possibly facebook and I am seeing glitches with other programs. I use firefox and it doesn't always load and it freezes up a lot. The same happens when I try to use Internet Explorer. I'm still getting error messages such as Read error The selected file is not a valid image file. The image could not be read. MGI PhotoSuite opens and I never clicked on it. Also various programs quite responding. This happens a lot. L:\AUTORUN.EXE is not accessible the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. This one pops up on start up and at different times while I'm on the computer. Another on is, An unspecified error occurred on the render thread. For detailed info please see Lela's log file. I think this one is my Linskys Router. Approximately 20 error windows in a row when MagiJack starts up saying, Error deploying the magicjack loader.exe. Assess denied or file in use by other application or system. While these pop ups are popping up, magicjack is loading properly in the background.

Hello again,

Thanks for your detailed explanation.

Let's begin here.

First...

Download and Run FlashDisinfector
  • Please download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
  • Reboot your computer when done.
Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden file named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder. It will help protect your drives from future infection.

Then...

Download and Run Combofix

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Refer to this page on instructions on doing so.

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

Any problems, please let me know.
Note: Please do not PM me asking for help, instead please post it in the correct forum requesting for help. Help requests via the PM system will be ignored.

If I'm helping you and I don't reply within 48 hours please feel free to send me a PM.

The help you receive here is always free but if you wish to show your appreciation, you may wish to Posted Image.

No problem, that should be fine.

It's looking good. How's your computer running so far?

Update and Scan with MalwareBytes Anti-Malware
  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Go to the Update tab
  • Select Check for Update and let MBAM download and install any available updates.
  • After the update is complete go to the Scanner tab.
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Take a new DDS run afterward and post back with both the DDS and Attach logs in your next reply. Also, let me know how your computer is running and if you have any more problems, issues or symptoms left.

Thanks.

With Regards,
Extremeboy

So far everything seems to be running normal. I haven't tried reconnecting my network though. I'll need to get Verizon tech to help me with reconnecting my router. Let me no if I should do that now. Thank you for your help.

Hello.

QUOTE
I haven't tried reconnecting my network though. I'll need to get Verizon tech to help me with reconnecting my router. Let me no if I should do that now.

Sure, go ahead. Let me know once that's done and if everything is okay.

The MBAM wasn't attached. ;) However, logs are looking a lot better.

How's this going along?

If you can, please run this online scan -if not let me know. This scan may take a while to complete.

Run Scan with Kaspersky

Please do a scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. Please note: Kaspersky requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE) be installed before scanning for malware, as ActiveX is no longer being used.)

If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

  • Open the Kaspersky WebScanner
    page.
  • Click on the button on the main page.
  • The program will launch and fill in the Information section on the left.
  • Read the "Requirements and Limitations" then press the button.
  • The program will begin downloading the latest program and definition files. It may take a while so please be patient and let it finish.
  • Once the files have been downloaded, click on the ...button.
In the scan settings make sure the following are selected:
    • Detect malicious programs of the following categories:
      Viruses, Worms, Trojan Horses, Rootkits
Spyware, Adware, Dialers and other potentially dangerous programs
    • Scan compound files (doesn't apply to the File scan area):
      Archives
      Mail databases
By default the above items should already be checked.
    • Click the button, if you made any changes.
  • Now under the Scan section on the left:

    Select My Computer
  • The program will now start and scan your system. This will run for a while, be patient and let it finish.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report
  • Now, click on the Save Report as button.
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
You can refer to this animation by sundavis if needed.

Take a new DDS run afterward and post back with both the DDS and Attach logs in your next reply. Also, let me know how your computer is running and if you have any more problems, issues or symptoms left.

Thanks.

With Regards,
Extremeboy

OK I just got my network working today. Everything seems to be good. I'll run the scans you requested and post them.
