I would try running chkdsk /r from the Recovery Console, rather than from within your XP install.

How to Create a Bootable XP Recovery Console CD - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/276527/how-to-create-a-bootable-xp-recovery-console-cd/

You could also try Dial-a-fix To Repair Windows Internals Problems - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/160132/how-to-use-dial-a-fix-to-repair-windows-internals-problems/

You could also try the Exe File Association Fix from http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm.

Resolution is good , thanks for providing feedback.

It's no trouble at all, it may help someone in a similar situation...become aware of the possibilities.

Happy computing :flowers:.
