My laptop has recently started overheating. I don't know why. It even shut down randomly a few times (I think because it was getting too hot). What could be going wrong with it??

Check for dust and debris in the vents and fans. blow the debris out with "Canned Air" (aerosol cans of compressed air) sold at office supply and computer stores. Pollen wreaks havoc on our computers in the shop.

Thanks for the suggestion BlackSpyder. I took my laptop apart and cleaned dust out of the heat sink, etc, and it seems to have resolved the issue :>
