Hello,

I'm running Windows XP Pro without problems until this past week. First my email client Thunderbird would shut down immediately if I click "attach" to an email draft, then it happened in my browser when I went directly to gmail using Google Chrome as I have been for quite some time. Now I can't save documents in Abiword because that app just shuts down. Almost every one of the programs I try to use has some malfunction. Thunderbird was configured to retrieve email from 3 of my separate addresses and now it can only retrieve msgs from one! Please help.

EDIT: Moved from XP forum to Am I Infected, more appropriate forum ~ Hamluis.

First run a full Chk Dsk to ensure there are no basic problems - Close all open programs -
Cut and Paste this code into Run Box and click OK - This should take about 30-40 mins -
CMD /C ECHO Y|CHKDSK C: /R | SHUTDOWN /R /T 30
If it takes over 1 hour then you may have an infection - Download and install Malwarebytes , Update , and run a Quick Scan -

Thank You -

As a start, try running chkdsk /r on your system.

Start/Run...type chkdsk /r (space between k and /) and hit Enter. Type Y in response to onscreen query and hit Enter. Reboot, the command will execute, upon completion the system will boot into XP.

Okay I've run the chkdsk just as you asked. Is there a report or something I am supposed to put up? It's still having a problem.
