Windows XP SP3
PC boots and displays top line of taskbar on bottom of screen, but cannot stretch or open. No Start Button. Several errors then popup:
"IDA was unable to find the task scheduler service on this system"
"Quick Launch Button has encountered a problem and needs to close"
"Unable to start Blutooth Stack Service"
When attempting to open Disk Management from Command line Error is "The RPC server is unavailable"

IE does not open. No Internet.

Current display shows Active Desktop Recovery, but Restore Active Desktop button does nothing.

McAfee scan detected issues, but scan eventually hangs.

Further research revealed that the root cause of the problem was McAfee's quarantine of the svchost.exe file. Downloaded and installed latest .dat from mcafee.com and copied another svchost.exe file.

Good job... did it work and all is now fine? They recently rolled out an update that caused several problems, but I think they have since fixed it.
