After trying the good advice offered by rowal5555 above if that procedure does not work try purchasing a optical drive lens cleaning disk found in most stores that sell music CDs.

For what it is worth, CD/DVD drives that burn disks have the highest failure rate of all the hardware found in a PC, that is because the laser has to concentrate more power to one area of the medium to burn the layer.

Ok.

Goto:

Start > Right click on my computer and click MANAGE

On the left side of the Window click on Device Manager

On the right side of the Window, click the + sign next to DVD/CD-ROM Drives.

That should open a drop down menu underneath like below:

- DVD/CD-ROM Drives
.
.
...YOUR DRIVE

Is there anything besides where your drive would be, like and exclamation point or question mark or X?

Yaa i did the above and i was able to see my drive and there was no ! mark. I also tried the lens cleaning Cd but was of no help.. When i put the cd/dvd in the drive i can feeling the rotation a little noise which is normal can be heard when cd rotates also the light on the cd panel blinks. But after a few seconds the cd drive stop rotating and light also stop bliking and nothing happens.

I have tried th lens cleaning cd on my dvd player it working perfectly. I also speaks a msag once the cleaning is done.

But nothing happens. Have my dvd drive is dead, Do i need to change it. Pls advise.
