I've been system cleaning for over an hour as I got sick of my comp running so slow while having over 60% of resources free and IE forever crashing.
I ran some scans which detected 3 trojans and a ton of spyware.
Can some kind person help me with the rest of the clean up?? I've run my anti virus, then ad aware and now Hijack This. Here's the log file...........

It's interesting to see McAfee mentioned as I installed it for about 3 weeks, hated it and then uninstalled it. That was 2 months ago!!
Any help is greatly appreciated as I need some sleep and don't have much hair left to pull out!! :flowers:

Please follow the instructions provided, you may want to print out these instructions and use them as a reference.

First:
Please download ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

Once the updates are installed close the Ewido program.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Once in safe mode, start Ewido and do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report.txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.

Reboot back to normal mode, open report.txt and post it as a reply to this post along with a new hijackthis log.

 F.Y.I - I've installed AVG antivirus and the FireFox browser since my last log.
Seems most, if not all, of my incomming emails in Outlook Express 6 are now showing the paperclip icon to show there's an attachment even though there isn't anything attached. It shows up on subscribed emails that have never had attachments in the past!!
Here's the new Logfile............

Print out these instructions and then close all windows including Internet Explorer.

Then I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button:

Ok. Done as requested. Rebooted from safe mode and the first thing I saw (even with no internet connection) was an Internet Explorer page titled About:Blank.

Just a note: I have managed to block the "About:Blank" page that keeps opening on its own.
However, Internet Explorer still starts on its own at start up but it's now using my homepage.
I'm now also using a program called "Spyware Blaster". Nothing seems to get rid of this bug!!

Here's my latest log............

Patience...this is a tough infection to remove but we will.

Print out these instructions and then close all windows including Internet Explorer.

Then I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\QTTASK.EXE" -atboottime

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [MOSearch] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\SYSTEM\MOSEARCH\BIN\MOSEARCH.EXE

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\SYSTEM\MOSEARCH\

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and post a new log.

Fix this last entry and your all set:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank

Now that your clean:

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

Managing Windows Millenium System Restore

or

Windows XP System Restore Guide

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

Next,

This process will clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files. Please do both steps:

Step 1:Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Finally, and definitely the MOST IMPORTANT step, click on the following tutorial and follow each step listed there:

Simple and easy ways to keep your computer safe and secure on the Internet

 Ok. All done. I think!!
Thanks for all your help. It is greatly appreciated and has helped me to learn more to protect and clean my system.
The only issue I still need to address is email related. Since about the time I noticed the troubles you have now helped me to rectify, almost all of my emails have been arriving with a "paper clip" icon next to them in Outlook Express. This usually means the email has an attachment. But there are no attachments to the emails.
Any thoughts on what may be causing this or where I can go to get help on this subject?
