inverter problem

The laptop screen will stay on for about an hour or two with no problems then will go dim whick seems like an inverter problem. Tryed to put new inverter in and had the same problem worked for a bit then shreen went dim and would not come back up. Could they have sent me a bad inverter? or could it be something else? Gateway Mt3422, win xp.

Have you tried Powering off, removing the battery and re-installing battery and powering back on to resolve this?
