usb ports not working

have a hp mini 1000.
has an ethernet port
a esata port
2 usb ports
and thats all.
need to do a reinstall with a usb optical drive.
in the os the usb doesn't work my guess is the usb ports are not working
or dead.
need to install an OS since the one it has is infected with a virus
any help is appreciated.

I have seen viruses that will shut down any new hardware installation and access to external drives. That's more likely what's happening. I bet the USB ports are working just fine. See if you can enter the BIOS. (Press F10 right after you turn on your computer) You might not be able to boot from a CD because the boot options in the BIOS might have the HD first. Check out page 68 in the manual. Good luck!
