Hello,

Just wondering what people's opinion on a good email scanner. I use Thunderbird as my e-mail client. I stopped using Norton as it missed a major infection of backdoor and malware. Thanks for your responses.

For the most part, any decent E-mail service begins the process by scanning your Email for viruses before they land in your in-box; your resident Anti-virus thus becomes a second layer of defence.
I have found AVG free edition to be very reliable in scanning your Email if you use a POP account.
Regards,
John

Is AVG the same as AntiVir ver.6? If it is I can't find the email scanning option. Would appreciate some direction on this. Thanks.

No AVG and AntiVir are two different free Anti Virus programs, and AntiVir doesn't have a email scanner. I still use AntiVir though because it was way better detection rates than AVG.
