Hi. I was taken in by the AntiVirus XP scam - was unable to do anything to get around their danged pop-up screen telling me my computer was hijacked, infected, breached, etc...

I finally paid the fee and registered it. Once I was able to access the internet, I found out it was a scam. I ran Spyware Doctor and it seemed to fix almost everything. Unfortunately, I no longer have Spyware Doctor, so am using AVG again.

One problem that has remained is 'start' was added by AntiVirus XP to my right click menu. While infected, right clicking and choosing 'start' was the only way to get any program to run.

I can now run all programs normally, but the 'start' option is still there. I ran regedit and tried to find it under MyComputer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers, but did not see anything I could identify there. There are a lot of handlers that are just a bunch of numbers/letters/symbols - and I have never been able to figure out what they actually are in my right click menu. I'd like to figure that out at some point, and clean up my right click menu, but it is not a priority now.

Anyway, if I have been unclear or driven you insane, I apologize. I got this far on my own.. now I need some help, if you can.

BTW, I canceled my ATM card that I used to purchase this bleeping garbage - but when you fill out the registration form, you also fill in all your other info - name, addy, etc. Do the people that infected me with this now have all my info? Should I close bank account, etc?

Thank you,
