I was infected with the XP Antivirus virus. I successfully removed it with the usual tools (Mcaffee, Spybot S&D, Malware AntiBytes, Combofix, Hitman Pro, Super Anti-Spyware). Now whenever I go to any search engine in any browser I am redirected after a few clicks to another search site. Usually the site has a thumb to the right of the address that looks like a stylized "2", or a green circle with hatched lines regardless of the site. Sometimes a new browser tab will open to a search site without prompting. This only happens on Google, Yahoo, Bing etc. Doing a copy link location and opening in a new tab works. Only clicking on the link in the search tab causes the redirect.

i also seem to have a weakness for the XP Antivirus virus. Every few days I am redirected or have a site pop up that takes me to a site that downloads it again. Are the two related? I have Windows firewall on and Mcaffee updated and running.

All the scans come up clean including TM Rootkitbuster. I imported the Spybot S&D hosts file list and it did not work. I also tried removing and replacing various suspect files mentioned in the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers directory mentioned in the forums. When doing the preparation for this forum GMER consistently blue screens my PC. DDS.SCR is tagged as a virus and/or I get a DOS window telling me EVE is not a valid DOS process.

Please read this topic: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/273628/combofix-usage-questions-help-look-here/ concerning the use of ComboFix.

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at step 6.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Since you have run ComboFix, please include the ComboFix log in the new topic.

If you cannot produce any of the other logs, then please create the new topic anyway, include the information that you were unable to produce the other logs and why and include the ComboFix log along with a description of your computer issues.
