Sony laptop runing XP pro. When PC is switched on, displays brief text message (never gets to Windows) saying Windows files not found. If machine is booted using floppy to DOS, does not recognize the hard drive (not found). If booted from CD, also does not find hard drive. I would like to reformat the HD, but do not know how. Any idea what could be causing this and how to repair?

What cd are you trying to use?

What is on the floppy? Is it a boot disk which will allow you to reformat the HD?
