When I start up my computer, right before it goes to bring up my desktop, the Virus Protector pops up and takes over. When I try to boot up in Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking it goes straight to Virus Protector. I am able to go into Safe Mode with command prompt. Tried using two other programs to get rid of this malware without any luck.

I would appreciate any help on this matter, and if you need any more info. let me know.

Thanks

Hello lefty21 smile.gif Welcome to the BC HijackThis Log and Analysis forum. I will be assisting you in cleaning up your system.

I ask that you refrain from running tools other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond the your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

Please keep in mind that we have a large backlog of users just like yourself waiting to be helped so try to be as timely as possible in your replies. Since we do this on a part-time voluntary basis we are limited on how many logs we can respond to and keep open due to time restraints. If you have to be away or can't answer for some other reason just let me know. Thank you for your understanding.

After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Instruction can be found HERE
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Note: Please post the log in the reply window and do not make it an attachment. Do this with all subsequent replies unless I ask otherwise.

Thanks,

thewall

I'm having trouble disabling my Norton 360 anitvirus program. Went to the link at the bottom of your last post and it told me to go to the systems tray to disable it but the malware has taken the systems tray away. Do you know of another way to disable Norton 360 antivirus and antispyware program?

If you can get to your Start button and then All Programs you can try doing it from there. Or if it is on your Desktop that might work.

The virus protector has blocked windows from loading up. The only way I can get around it is to boot up in safe mode with command prompt. I've tried to open up the Norton 360 program to disable it, but it won't let me since i'm in safe mode. Is there another way to disable the program?

Well if it want let you get into Normal Mode and you can't disable it from Safe Mode then that presents a problem.

If you have Safe Mode with Networking then try to run the following program:
  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
  • Extract its contents to your desktop and make sure TDSSKiller.exe (the contents of the zipped file) is on the Desktop itself, not within a folder on the desktop.
  • Go to Start > Run (Or you can hold down your Windows key and press R) and copy and paste the following into the text field. (make sure you include the quote marks) Then press OK.

    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -l C:\TDSSKiller.txt -v

  • If it says "Hidden service detected" DO NOT type anything in. Just press Enter on your keyboard to not do anything to the file.
  • When it is done, a log file should be created on your C: drive called "TDSSKiller.txt" please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
