hi i am bill i have a 5 yr old compaq pressario with windows xp home, when on the internet the copmuter crashes and some details are blue screen ?, compaq have given me several hours of assistance but now say its a software problem, i want to avoid taking it back to original settings. i am on microsoft explorer and have tried mozilla foirefox, any ideas think ive down loaded or got rid of something. i did take off the cd player bit but have put something on that allows me to play them PHEW ? bill

What version of Windows XP are you running, and is it updated. Also can you tell us the rest of the specs?

I would update your video card card drivers: http://www.ati.com

I would then remove Symantech and try Avast or Avira

Then see if the blue screens still happen.

to be honest i dont know if i downloaded it or not as said it was confusing so many downloads toghether bill will return tomorrow thanks for the time bill
