greetings:

My computer has been riddled with viruses and spyware for over 6 months. Every time i would run norton anti-v, i would show 5 viruses that i could not delete. from another online forum, i learned to run norton in safemode, which got rid of the viruses. my computer was still running slow, and i am getting a toolbar on the lower half of the screen every time i open iexplorer.

A friend had me remove all of the questionable programs i could and download/run adaware in both safe and normal modes after shutting off system restore. I also ran spybot. It came up with over 400 enties(Adaware), but every time i run it, it comes back with more objects. The internet explorer toolbar was able to close for about a week by clicking on the x, but now the only way to close it is to end the iexplorer process(the are 2 when explorer is running).

I also have a get incessant norton firewall pop ups notifying my that thnall1z.exe or thnall1a.exe is attempting to access the internet.

After googling thnallz.exe, i found a forum that suggested i download nailfix, ewido, and ccleaner. I couldn't figure out how to unzip nailfix. I then updated the remaining two, restarted in safe mode and scanned. I deleted all entried returned by ewido. The explorer toolbar and thnailz.exe messages continue. And adaware is still finding more spyware.

I ran Hijack this and this is my log:

Hello CarPeDiem.mil and welcome to BleepingComputer.

Lot's of pieces here, it's hard to tell what the main infection is. Let's take a first shot and see what we can get rid of and what comes back.

Configure Windows to enable viewing of Hidden and System files.

If you still have Ewido installed, be sure it is updated. If it is not still installed:

Download and install the trial version of Ewido Security Suite.
When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
- Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
- When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!".
- The program will prompt you to update; click the OK button.
- The program will now go to the main screen.
- On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
- Click on Start.
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed, close Ewido.

Do not run Ewido yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode.

Start HJT and click on the SCAN button. Put a check mark in front of the following lines if they still show:

Run Ewido Security Suite:
- Click on scanner.
- Click on Complete System Scan.
- Let the program scan the machine.
When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report.
- Click Save report.
- Save the report to your desktop.

Reboot normally.

I need you to check for hidden scheduled tasks that may be reinstalling LOP.

Open Notepad, (Start button, click on Run, type in Notepad, and click OK) copy & pastes the following block of text into Notepad:

dir c:\windows\tasks /a > sched.txt
notepad sched.txt
del sched.txt

Click on 'File', then 'Save as'
Select 'Save as type:' as All Files,
Save the file to the desktop as sched.bat. Close Notepad.

Double click on sched.bat and a notepad file should open. Copy the contents of that file to your next post along with the Ewido log and a fresh HJT log please.
