what i have here is a netbook with windows7 software... well i guess window7 don't have a movie maker?? so i downloaded ULead Video Studio trial version and then my friend borrowed my laptop and recommended to get the crack of Ulead in the net.. so we searched and download torrents these are the sites:

hxxp://alivetorrents.com/torrent/6135817/ulead-videostudio-plus-11-crack

and

hxxp://www.torrenthound.com/hash/4319dff130eccb0f7f53c19b324069d51b1b736b/torrent-info/Ulead-VideoStudio-Plus-11--Crack

then after downloading and opening it.. i can't open all my applications...
whenever im checking the properties of all the applications....

instead of showing that the files are application, they are showing that it's an EXE file..
i can open my firefox manually... i need to rightclick an infected application then click "choose default program" then choose the right program on the web... i'm having a hard time now in using my netbook.. \

i'm also trying to run the system restore but i can't open it also... :flowers:

i know what i tried to do is not good but i don't know much about computer software that time... my friend just apologize on what happen to my netbook.. i hope someone could help me.. i promise after my netbook will be ok again i will not do that stupid things again, i've learned my lesson but hoping to have the second chance to use my netbook again normally.. i just hope that i can fix my netbook without having it reformat, because i don't want to loose some of my applications..

My suspicion is that something changed the default run directory in the registry.
Could you run Link removed. Program not allowed in this forum. ~ OB? This will log all unnormal changes to the registry.

what do you mean when you say it doesn't appear on my document?

EDIT: try This. this one is directed specifically towards win 7. fix worked in my test, hopefully will work for you too

EDIT 2: if that doesn't work, try these directions from myantispyware.com

Click Start, Run. Type command and press Enter. Type notepad and press Enter.
Notepad opens. Copy all the text below into Notepad.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\secfile]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\secfile]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\shell\open\command]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command]
@="\"%1\" %*"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe]
@="exefile"
"Content Type"="application/x-msdownload"

Save this as fix.reg to your Desktop (remember to select Save as file type: All files in Notepad.)
Double Click fix.reg and click YES for confirm.
Reboot your computer.

i tried "EDIT:" but it doesnt work for me.. it says

"C:\Windows\System32>assoc.exe=exefile
Access is denied.
Error occured while processing: .exe."

so i tried "EDIT2:"

i think it worked..
because it says

"The key and values contained in C:\Users\---\Desktop\fix.reg have been successfully added to the registry.."

is reboot same as reformat?i don't know much about these terms.... so all my files and applications will be lost?
all i can say is that i don't have the installer of windoow7 because my mom just bought this netbook from her friend.. it says that this netbook is designed for windowsXP but it's OS right now is windows7.. maybe she upgraded her OS??

for you what do you prefer.. if ever should i continue using windows7 or should i use windowsXP?

Hello,

Reboot is very different from a reformat. Reboot really is shutting down the computer and starting it up again. Unless something is VERY wrong, you shouldn't lose a thing when you reboot unless you are actively uninstalling something.

I see that you also downloaded some cracks. Please uninstall them at once. Not only are such illegal, but they are riddled with infections as are the sites they come from.

...warez and crack web pages are being used by cybercriminals as download sites for malware related to VIRUT and VIRUX. Searches for serial numbers, cracks, and even antivirus products like Trend Micro yield malcodes that come in the form of executables or self-extracting files...quick links in these sites also lead to malicious files. Ads and banners are also infection vectors...

Keygen and Crack Sites Distribute VIRUX and FakeAV

I've alerted our first responders to your topic so you can receive assistance in cleaning up the computer.

to sduvick:
well i tried again the "EDIT:" just wondering if it'll work for the second time

well it this is an image of what i've tried
Posted Image

in the second line... it stated that the .exe file is an exefile... so maybe there's nothing wrong with the .exe file type??
but in the third line.. like there's something that is preventing the process... i already uninstall my antivirus (AVIRA) because i've read this http://filext.com/faq/broken_exe_association.php on the FURTHER NOTE: paragraph..

and on the "EDIT2:" part after doing what you instructed... i restart my netbook... but still there are no changes with my applications.... they are still EXE file...

to Orange Blossom:
i've read the link that you gave... this is the first time i've encountered such problem and it's very creepy.. lol

i'm just curious.. what benefits do the cybercriminals get? why do they need to do such horrible torrents that destroy some computer...

anyway thanks alot!

Please use FixExe.reg
....click Run when the box opens. This should once again allow EXE files to run when clicked as they normally did.

You should also do as advised by Orange Blossom. Remove/Uninstall all Cracks on your system. As OB stated, these are not only illegal but Will compromise your system more often then not.

After repairing your EXE file association, please run the following two scans on your computer and post the logs from each.

Scan for Spyware/Adware

The process of cleaning your computer may require you to temporarily disable some security programs. If you are using SpyBot Search and Destroy, please refer to Note 2 at the bottom of this page.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free version and save it to your desktop.

NOTE: Before saving MBAM please rename it to zztoy.exe....now save it to your desktop.

alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.
  • Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note:
-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Note 2:
-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes. To disable these programs, please view this topic: How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs
---------------------------
Be sure to re-enable your AV and malware scan tools if they were disabled

SAS, may take a long time to scan
Please download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free
  • Double-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
  • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
  • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here. Double-click on the hyperlink for Download Installer and save SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to your desktop. Then double-click on SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to install the definitions.)
  • In the Main Menu, click the Preferences... button.
  • Click the "General and Startup" tab, and under Start-up Options, make sure "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts" box is unchecked.
  • Click the "Scanning Control" tab, and under Scanner Options, make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
    • Close browsers before scanning.
    • Scan for tracking cookies.
    • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program.
  • Do not run a scan just yet.
  • First
Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Scan with SUPERAntiSpyware as follows:
  • Launch the program and back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
  • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan and click "Next".
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally.
  • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
    • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
  • Click Close to exit the program.
Note.. SAS doesn't open the registry hives for other user accounts on the system, so scans should be done from each user account.

Can you tell me if this was happening when the netbook was purchased or did it happen after downloading the torrents? Can you also tell me when it started happening?

The W32.Sircam.Worm@mm worm virus can cause this issue.
To see if your computer is infected with this kind of virus:
Restart your computer, press F8 at the Windows XP Startup menu, and then select Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
At the command prompt, type regedit, and press ENTER.

If the following registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command
is set to C:\recycled\sirc32.exe "%1" %*
your computer is infected with the W32/SirCam worm virus:

Note If this registry setting is anything other than
"%1" %*
your computer may be infected with a different virus.

Do Not change or remove anything... Just confirming here.
