when i try to use my Disk defrag' I get a pop up from "microsoft management console"
Stating "MMC requires Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater to be installed.

However i do have it installed...? Although i am using Mozilla FireFox..

Try this:
Go to Start Menu, Run, type C:\WINDOWS\INF, click OK. Locate the file IE.INF (not IE.PNF). Right-click on it, and click on the "Install" command in the popup menu.

Hope this helps!

The question is...does defrag run?

Have you run chkdsk /r? It might help, if your files are scrambled.

Have you checked Event Viewer for clues?
