Hello HJT team,

After searching the net for some assistance I found this site and was impressed at the level of assistance "SifuMike" gave to "Basket Chick" on the removal of Trojans and Malware that I feel I'm in good hands.

On the 18th Sept my daughter reported "I think I've done something wrong". The Desktop had numerous links to undesirable sites and the Internet Explorer continually attempts to connect. Plus a number of bogus pop-up messages appear.

First action was to run the Norton anti-virus but it found nothing.

I looked through the history file and noted the last program to be downloaded was "Dropper". This I have discovered is a Trojan.

I then found this bleepingcomputer site and looked at the general advice given, but in particular given by SifuMike and on the 20th did the following. (PC not switched off throughout).

1) Down loaded and ran CCleaner. To clear any lingering Trojan links.
2) Downloaded Ad-aware SE 1.06r1, A2 (A squared) and Hijacker.
3) Went into Safe-mode and set-up Ad-aware as detailed below, and ran a full scan. Report saved but not attached in this post.

In Ad-aware click the Gear to go to the Settings area.

The following items should be on a green check, not on a red X.

Under the Scanning button:
Scan within archives
Under Memory & Registry, Check EVERYTHING
In Check Drives & Folders, make sure all of your hard drives are selected

Under the Advanced button, check ALL under Log detail level.

Under the Tweak button...

Some of these may not be an available option, depending on your version of Ad-aware and your version of Windows. Do not be concerned if you cannot select a certain item.

In Scanning Engine:
Unload recognized processes during scanning
Include info about ignored objects in logfile, if detected in scan
Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
Include used command line parameters in logfile

In Cleaning Engine:
XP/2000: Allow unloading explorer to unload shell extensions prior to deletion
Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
UNCHECK: Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion

Click Proceed to save these settings. When you would like to perform a "Full Scan," switch the scan mode from SmartScan to Custom.

4) Restarted the PC and then ran A2 scan. This came back with "NO Malware found"

5) Finally ran Hijacker this morning and saved the log, attached.

6) My next step was going to be to Disable and Enable the system restore to clear any code that would is being held in the restore point.
I have noticed in Grinlers "How to use this Forum" posting a recommendation to run Spybot - Search and destroy. Again I will do this whilst waiting for further assistance.

Current situation is that the desktop icons remain and appear to be refreshed, the Internet explorer is still trying to be launched and Dropper appears in the HJT log.

What should my next step be ???

Hello HJT team,

Since reporting this problem I have spent the last three days searching for further information.

I found a number of corrective actions in this Forum and in threads from various help sites.

From these created an action plan and made a number of corrective actions.

The result of this is that I believe the Trojan has been removed and the PC is clean so this thread can be closed.

I will open a new thread to detail the corrective actions and post a final HJT log for review.

For anyone that has also had a problem with Dropper.chm, Dropper.exe, specialgoods.info please look for my next thread titled "Dropper.chm"

Thread closed,
