Attempted to run Gmer about 5 times and ever time about 5-8 mins in it bluescreens my cpu.
Every time I try to do a search I get redirected to some other search engines and advertisements, also have windows xp security virus that tells me I have a billion virus and need to download more software.
Any help would be awesome, thanks.

Hello, and welcome.gif to the Malware Removal forum! My online alias is Blade Zephon, or Blade for short, and I will be assisting you with your malware issues!

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know.

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

Before we begin cleaning your machine, I'd like to lay out some guidelines for us to follow while we are working together.
  • I will be assisting you with your malware issues. This may or may not resolve other problems you are having with your computer. If you are still having problems after your machine has been determined clean, I will be glad to direct you to the proper forum for assistance.
  • Even if things appear better, that does not mean we are finished. Please continue to follow my instructions until I give you the all clean. Absence of symptoms does not mean that all the malware has been removed. If a piece of the infection is left, it can regenerate and reinfect your machine.
  • Attention to detail is important! Since I cannot see or directly interact with your computer I am dependent on you to "be my eyes" and provide as much information as you can regarding the current state of your computer.
  • I ask that you please refrain from running tools other than those I suggest to you while I am cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so I know what is going on with the machine at any time. If you act independently it will cause changes to your system that I will not be aware of, which will make the process of cleaning the machine a much slower and more difficult process. Additionally, some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.
  • Please perform all steps in the order received. If you are unsure or confused about any instructions I give you, you should ask me to clarify before doing anything. Additionally, if you run into any problems while carrying out instructions, you should STOP and reply back here explaining what happened.
  • After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed. If you need additional time, that is perfectly alright; you just need to let us know beforehand. smile.gif

***************************************************

Please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

As you appear to be having issues with posting, please try attaching the logs. If that doesn't work, split the logs between posts as necessary; it is very important I have the entire log.

Hello blade, thanks for the relpy. As of right now im replying on my cell phone. I was mad at my computer because of the malware and was just going to reformat. But after I got my xp cd and restarted my cpu, it is now stuck in a constant restart cycle never getting past initial start up. Everything seems fine and it gets to "starting in last known good configuration" then it begins to load xp like normal bit before my desktop is loaded it restart all over again.

Hello Blake56

If you are still interested in attempting to clean your computer, we can attempt to restore functionality to it. However, you will need access to another, clean machine to perform some steps.

Let me know what you wish to do.

Hey Blade thanks for the quick responses. I went ahead and reformated my hard drive. But this might be something you can help me with or might need to be moved to another section now. I had to switch my HD to an old dell tower I had to finally get it to boot properlly. I reformated and I'm currently on that machine now with no problems what so ever with malware and running fine. But when I switch my HD into my original tower it boots up but like 2 secs into loading XP it blue screens on me and restarts. Any Ideas? Thanks so much Blade.

I think I might have an idea of what the problem is. . . but let's take a look at the BSOD first before I make any assumptions.
  • When you boot your machine, press F8 to list the startup options, exactly as you would if you were trying to enter Safe Mode
  • Select "Disable Automatic Restart on System Failure", as shown here:
  • When your system BSODs, write down the STOP error code, as well as any written out error message back here. The STOP error will always appear, but the message may not. You are looking for this:
Please post me the error(s).

Ok once I get to the boot up screen I dont have the option of the one you are saying to select. I only have, "safe mode" "safe mode with networking" "safe mode with command prompt" "last known good configuration" " starr windows normally" Thanks for your patience.

Hello Blake56

The instructions that follow apply to your malfunctioning tower. Please connect the hard drive to it for the duration.

We'll be accessing the BIOS for this. To do this, you will need to tap one of the F-keys on system boot (on most machines it's F1 or F2, but should be displayed on the initial splash screen). Upon accessing the BIOS, search for a setting titled "Boot priority" or "Boot order" or something similar. In the settings for this option you should see a list of several devices such as: Floppy Drive, CD Drive, and Hard Disk. Please change the settings so that Hard Disk is at the top of the list, indicating that it has the highest boot priority. Save settings and exit the BIOS. The computer will restart at this point. Does the machine boot successfully now? If not, do you get the same STOP error as before?

Hi Blake56 and sorry for the delay in reply; I've had some issues that required that my attention be elsewhere for the past couple days.

Unfortunately hardware is not my specialty and I am unsure as to the cause of the problem. My first suggestion would be to try re-reformatting the drive while having it connected to the tower which currently generates the BSOD. If that fails, I would suggest creating a thread in our Internal Hardware forum; the experts there will be able to much better assist you with troubleshooting.

Good luck!
