Hi EB, thanks for helping me out. Here are some of the problems I've been having: I have a search redirector that redirects my search results to sites like 7search.com. Also, sometimes at random a new window will open up on its own and go to reply.com/portal. I also keep getting a pop up telling me that "the host has stopped working" or something like that, usually followed by another pop-up asking me if I want to run a free scan(which I ignore).

Here are the logs you requested:

Hello there.

It seems you're infected with the TDL3 rootkit. More information here: http://rootbiez.blogspot.com/2009/11/rootk...s-lets-put.html

Let's see what we can do here. If you wish to continue, let's start with Combofix. If Combofix doesn't fix it we'll try something else. Any problems, let me know.

Download and Run ComboFix

Note to readers of this post other than the starter of this thread:
ComboFix is a VERY POWERFUL tool which should NOT BE USED without guidance of an expert.

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop.
Link 1
Link 2

Please refer to this page for full instructions on how to run ComboFix.
  • Close/disable all anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Refer to this page if you are not sure how.
  • Double click ComboFix.exe to start the program. Agree to the prompts.
  • When ComboFix is finished, a log report (C:\ComboFix.txt) will open. Post back with it.
Leave your computer alone while ComboFix is running.

ComboFix will restart your computer if malware is found; allow it to do so.

Note: Please Do NOT mouseclick combofix's window while its running because it may call it to stall.

Note: Please do not PM me asking for help, instead please post it in the correct forum requesting for help. Help requests via the PM system will be ignored.

If I'm helping you and I don't reply within 48 hours please feel free to send me a PM.

The help you receive here is always free but if you wish to show your appreciation, you may wish to Posted Image.

Hello.

You have quite a bit besides the TDL3 rootkit infection. Quite a bit left, but let's deal with the main one first and the rest afterward.

First, do you have your Windows Vista disk with you still? If not, we'll do something else instead. smile.gif

With Regards,
Extremeboy

No, I don't have my Windows Vista disk. I was looking for it a long time ago for another reason and I could never find it. I have no idea what happened to it. I hope that's not too much of a problem.

Hello.

That's okay. We can always create one of those Vista Recovey disks if needed to access the diagnostic tool or mode that we need.

Let's try TDSSKiller against this variant as it has been successful in most cases with this variant of TDSS. If not, we'll try something else.
  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
  • Extract its contents to your desktop and make sure TDSSKiller.exe (the contents of the zipped file) is on the Desktop itself, not within a folder on the desktop.
  • Go to Start > Run (Or you can hold down your Windows key and press R) and copy and paste the following into the text field. (make sure you include the quote marks) Then press OK. (If Vista, click on the Vista Orb and copy and paste the following into the Search field. (make sure you include the quotation marks) Then press Ctrl+Shift+Enter.)

    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -l C:\TDSSKiller.txt -v

  • If it says "Hidden service detected" DO NOT type anything in. Just press Enter on your keyboard to not do anything to the file.
  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Allow it to do so.
  • When it is done, a log file should be created on your C: drive called "TDSSKiller.txt" please copy and paste the contents of that file here.

Note: Please do not PM me asking for help, instead please post it in the correct forum requesting for help. Help requests via the PM system will be ignored.

If I'm helping you and I don't reply within 48 hours please feel free to send me a PM.

Is it not in your C:\ drive?

Try doing a search for TDSSKiller.txt then.

Hello drmario23,

Okay, I see the file in your C:\ drive. I don't understand why you couldn't find it. Is it not in your C:\ drive?

Go to Start >> My Computer >> Double-click on your C:\ drive >> Look for a file called TDSSKiller.txt in there >> Post/Attach that log file to me in your next reply.
Note: Please do not PM me asking for help, instead please post it in the correct forum requesting for help. Help requests via the PM system will be ignored.
