FYI: I have been using Firefox as my default browser forever, but needed to install IE for work purposes.

While attempting to download IE8 I encountered:

Error:"0X5f160f5a"

"The application failed because 1gfxpers.exe failed"

runtime error 216 @ 5F160F5a

then: "setting up personalized settings - the customized station is shutting down"

Can anyone translate what this means?

Couple things are unclear...
What Windows version are we talking about here?
IE is a part of Windows, so you must have some IE version there.

While attempting to download IE8

Download, or install?

"The application failed because 1gfxpers.exe failed"

igfxpers.exe maybe?

I'm a novice user

I have no idea of what version of IE I had previously, because I've been using Firefox exclusively for years.

After the errors I mentioned: I do have the IE8 icon on my desktop, but am wary of using it.

Well, we won't know, if it works until you try it.

It seems to work, so not sure why the errors occurred, so will leave it that.
