Well, we are going on a trip for china...for 3 months. Two very long air trips and a guaranteed month of saying in the same place. This is the longest trip yet, and we decided that me mooching off my dads work computer is not a good idea.

My budget for the new computer is: i'd prefer <$1000, but can go a bit above if necessary.
What are the primary uses for this computer (IE: mail, web browsing, programming, games, etc)? Games, web browsing, art

What software do you intend on using on the computer? stuff like Sai painter, mozilla, and steam

Do you play games? If so, what type of games? Yes, but i will stick to the Orange Box (2007) and Audiosurf for conveniences sake

Do you tend to have a lot of programs running at the same time, or do you close every program when you are done using it? I usually have steam and mozilla
running, possibly with either my art program or game running at the same time.

Do you store a lot of pictures or music on the computer? some pictures, lots of music.

My drawing tablet (no screen) and headphones/mic are pretty important. Tablet is only plugged in when i need it, headphones are always in. And a mouse >.>

Well for starters we are going to go for a laptop for obvious reasons.

For your usage, mail and web browsing will be covered under any computer. Programming and games can be a little bit more intensive. How intesive are these games? Are we playing Crysis or are we going old school with some Diablo 2?

Looking at SaiPainter, it looks pretty low requirement, mozilla is as well. By Steams standards it is as well, but I disagree. Maybe I have just had bad luck with steam, but we will have you covered for that just in case.

Lots of music will need you a bit larger hard drive.

Headset, tablet (I am assuming usb) and mouse shouldn't be any problem.

I found a computer on an i7 platform so this one should hold you over for a good while.
