Before we installed windows 7 on this computer i had files tht i wanted to keep and they didnt back them up or anything...is there anyway to restore them still or are they lost for ever.

did you do a clean install or an upgrade and yes they are probably gone.

What did you upgrade from?
Did you run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor before upgrading?
Where were the files stored you wanted to keep before you upgraded i.e. Folder Path?

You could always try data-recovery software.

Some programs are better than others...the methods/situations covered also tend to vary.
