boot up error

Hi was hoping someone could help when i go to start up my laptop it won't boot and goes to this error
"windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
<windows root>\system32\hal.dal.
please re-install a copy of the above file
Any help would be great thanks.

Hello in Ireland .Microsoft has a how to fix for that on this website .good luck .
