Hi,
A Friend Loaned me his p4 Hard drive (vista starter) so that i could burn some movies at my place because it takes forever to burn movies. I hooked his box up to a keyboard, mouse and old monitor i had at home and swtiched the pc on a few times (in error). when it went on i saw an error message (in DOS format) saying "disk Boot Failure Insert Boot CD". i assume it has got to do with the on/off switching. I am in quite a panic because it is not mine and i don't want to be the reason they lose their info.

How bad is it and what can i do to fix it?

I've asked him for the disk that came along with the pc when he bought it, but he can't find it!

Thank you

You were right! it was something that came loose while in transit (the starter plug i think). Thank you.
When i switched the pc on it came up with all kinds of pop-up messages all relating to updates and security updates on the pc.
There is no internet connection. is there any way of updating windows on the computer or without having an internet connection?

1) Cannot Update Windows Defender (needs Internet conn)
2) "there are serious security concerns" pop-up appears when logging on.
3) when starting up (doing nothing else besides turning pc on), 2 pop-up windows appear. Both are "properties" windows 1. "tud properties" & "sys32 properties".

Both look like the "restore deleted item" window.

Well, I suggest, you start a new topic in "Am I Infected?" forum, but I'm not sure how much can be done without internet connection.
