I know that this has been handled dozens of times before (I searched it out), but there appears to be no alternative to user/expert interface to resolve this one. Along those lines, you folks at bleepingcomputer are outstanding, and your assistance is greatly appreciated.

I'm running a Dell Pavilion desktop, Windows XP SP2, Microsoft Windows LiveOneCare antivirus, Malwarebytes and Spybot, all run on a regular basis. I had a recent bout with the "XP Defender 2010" malware, and was able to eradicate it. I'm not sure how or where, but about the same time I was removing the "XP Defender 2010", my LiveOneCare jumped in to tell me that "Virus win32/Alureon.G" had been captured, but could not be cleaned. The main disturbance seems to be the redirecting of Google searches. Not just once, as some relate, but over and over again when clicking on the same search result. If I type the desired address in the upper address bar, it gets me there.

I have the use of a laptop if needed to communicate, and am ready to run the necessary scans. Since I've seen several variations on how to fix this thing, I've held off from running anything until requested. Thanks very much in advance!
