Hi!

I just got my own computer at school for research and the girl who was on it before apparently received alot of viruses from China. Well that is what they tell me. It was extremely slow before I ran AVG, disk defrag, disk cleanup, deleted unwanted programs and startup programs. However, it is still not as fast as I'd like and I was wondering if malware might be the culprit.

Here is my hijackthis file:

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • See this Link for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
  • Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

Please download and run the following tool to help allow other programs to run. (Thanks to Grinler of BleepingComputer.com)
There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Admin
You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them.
You will know it ran as a window will open and close real quick

Rkill.exe http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.exe
Rkill.com http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.com
Rkill.scr http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.scr

Drag Combofix to the trash and download a fresh copy and you will have to rename it for it to run

Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it. Save it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2

Hi I tried everything and when I doubleclicked on the renamed saved Combo-fix app, an error window popped up:

32788R22FWJFW\iexplore.exe

Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

This is a university computer and a firewall or permissions set by your administrator may be blocking it.

According to the time on the scans, looks like you ran RSIT before you ran Malwarebytes so run RSIT again and post the logs please

I ran RSIT and only the log.txt file showed up. I ran twice and same thing happened. I'm not sure why I am not getting info.txt?

Lets check for a rootkit , lets make sure there is none present

Download the GMER Rootkit Scanner. Unzip it to your Desktop.

Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.
  • Double click GMER.exe.
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a full scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan..
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are UNCHECKED ...
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)

Click the image to enlarge it
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "ark.txt"
  • Save the log where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Please copy and paste the report into your Post.

Hi,
  1. Please download OTM by OldTimer and save it to your desktop.
  2. Double click the icon on your desktop.
  3. Paste the following code under the area.
Do not include the word "Code".

    CODE
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Services

    :Reg

    :Files
    C:\Program Files\Tencent

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]

  4. Push the large button.
  5. OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
  6. Copy/Paste the contents under the line here in your next reply.
  7. If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

they are okay...seems like when i turn on my computer in the beginning, things are much slower. The computer is really old so that might be a problem too but it is a little faster than before. I might try just leaving my computer on all the time. Thanks for all your help!
