Help! I would really really appreciate it if someone can help me even just explaining to me this error I keep getting recently...Whenever I get this error the pc will restart then will create a log report saying it has recovered from a serious problem. and its always this problem in Temp folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\EllenCurl\Local Settings\Temp\wer5c2b.dir00\mini033010-03.dmp (sometimes its -04) and

C:\Documents and Settings\EllenCurl\Local Settings\Temp\wer5c2b.dir00\sysdata.xml

it doesn't happen when using a particular program, whether using the internet or a program like sims 2 it will restart and log this problem. sometimes it does this restarting a couple of times a day and I don't know if its harming the PC and I don't know what to do or what this error is all about. Our operating system is Windows xp service pack 2

Hope someone can help

Thanks

Hi,

and welcome to BleepingComputer

It's impossible to know whats wrong when we don't see whats inside the logs.
Could you please copy the content in the file and post it?

You can read more about those dumps here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315263

/Barilla

BTW, you should consider to update you operating system with service pack 3

Hi .

WER...stands for Windows Error Reporting and .dmp files are the reports generated whenever Windows encounters what is known as a STOP error or BSOD.

Such happens when serious things go wrong with Windows functioning and these two items above are attempts by Windows to provide detail on what needs to be addressed and what happened.

First thing I suggest is Disable Automatic Restarts When Windows Crashes - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/74644/how-to-disable-automatic-restarts-when-windows-crashes/, if not done already.

Secondly...download/install BlueScreenView - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html.

Double-click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.

When scanning is done, Edit/Select All...then File/Save Selected Items. Save the report as BSOD.txt.

Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

Louis

Thanks . Following are standard explanations of your errors noted:

0x00000077: KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR
A page of kernel data requested from the pagefile could not be found or read into memory. This message also can indicate disk hardware failure, disk data corruption, or possible virus infection.

0x0000007A: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
A page of kernel data was not found in the pagefile and could not be read into memory. This might be due to incompatible disk or controller drivers, firmware, or hardware.

0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler didn’t catch. These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade).

OK...let's try uninstalling your video drivers (using Device Manager)...and then reinstalling them.

System manufacturer and model?

If you have an actual physical video card installed (rather than onboard), then manufacturer and model? If system is name brand (Dell, HP, etc.), then ignore this unless you know that someone replaced the original equipment.

Heartless...when you want to reply or post....just click the Add Reply button, there's usually no need to quote the person you are responding to. I deleted your previous posting efforts where all that was reflected was the quote from a previous post .

NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440-8X is the vehicle for providing graphics to your system.

Technically, that's the chip designation and you could either have a system where the graphics come as part of the motherboard (known as onboard graphics, chip is part of the motherboard) or you could have a physical card with that graphics chip.

In Device Manager, it will appear under Display Adapters. If you double-click on the chip listed, you will see various tabs...the Driver tab will have a button on it marked Uninstall. Click that to uninstall the video driver package, then OK.

To reinstall the video drivers, you either use your Drivers CD which came with the system/motherboard...or you can download from the system/motherboard manufacturer's website.

If you tell me the system manufacturer and model (e.g., eMachines T1234), then I can just provide the link to the correct drivers.

Here is the link to the XP drivers for that model graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440-8X):

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71_2.html

Follow Louis's instructions on uninstalling the driver, then download and install the one from that link.
