I am working on my neighbors old ancient Gateway. It as been "SPED" by someone according to him. He is 73 yrs and gets e-mail and likes porn.
This has windows XP Pro and a 10 gig hard drive. I am trying to install an old Maxtor 40 gig Diamondmax that came out of an old computer. Cannot get Maxblast to run to wipe the drive, says no operating system installed. So i used the OEM XP install disc I have and get this error:
File setupddd.sys could not be loaded. The error code is 4. Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit. Google search turn up nothing for me.

Worth a look, http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330181.

Just what the damaged hardware might be...the usual suspects (RAM, hard drive) would be my first checks.
