I have been following this thread very carefully. Thank GOD!! for this site. This is my first post.

I've tried everything that you've suggested and I've been having the same problems as the OP. In fact, I even reformatted my laptop and after going online for first time, this Online Protection Tool was still there!!! How did it survive the format?? The hard drive on my laptop is partitioned into 2 drives. Is it possible that the spyware jumped onto the D: drive even though I formatted the C: drive???

This is driving me nuts. I can't update Malwarebytes or even access it's main page or forums - it's been blocked. I've tried about 3 other anti-adware, anti-spyware and anti-virus programs and none have been able to find or fix it.

This Online Protection Tool virus also blocks Windows Updates. I was going to try and install Microsoft Security Essentials, do an update and see if it would allow me to remove it using MSE, but MSE won't update!! Ahhh!!

Any other suggestions on what to do!??!

Thanks.

Sorry for hijacking the previous thread. This is my first time on the forums. I really, REALLY appreciate all your help.

The reason for my late response is because I was reformatting my laptop and doing a fresh install of Win7. After doing so, the problem still persists. Windows Update does not work, Malwarebytes' website is blocked, I can't install Microsoft Security Essentials and website redirecting still persists. The only thing that I installed on my laptop after the fresh install of Win7 was the ATI drivers, downloaded from filehippo.com.

This problem persists on both my desktop and laptop. My laptop is easier to play around with seeing as how all my important files are on my desktop. And I figured that if you're able to find the solution to fixing my laptop, then I should be able to apply the same solution to my desktop.

Here's my DDS:

DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86
Run by Tosh at 21:18:04.84 on Mon 03/29/2010

Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.
