OK I have this hot spot shield infection and I cannot get rid of it I've tried everything and it's not working... I have read several post regarding similar situations on bleeping puter, I have battled with this for sometime know and current internet is working I finally googled a treat site that explained this thing to a tee about how keys have been overwritten and this hot spot is so thoroughly set throughout my system watching every move, I've noticed as looking through C: scripts about logs and I just couldn't believe what was happening. there are several posts with hot spot shield using combo fix, I don't know if I should just follow along or not so I'm posting

Vista x64 home premium

Toshiba sat. laptop

avast av

zone alarm f/

windows defender

windows firewall

a lot of utility's

did have had a 24hr support until they couldn't help then I went to avast

I ran a hijack log so I'll wait for instructions, I did not see the hot spot shield first round I haven't deleted anything yet but I know it's there...

Well, there must be to many problems and only so many virus comandos... I am going to start combo fix, I'm followin a link from an issue just like mine except I looked (quickly) through my highjack log and didn't see the Hot shield, I did have it and when I use explorer it is on the homepage as a search engine. My first attempts to eradicate it must have made this evil scum morph into a different dirtbag... By the way I have not had an update for sometime and my bios just was updated 2 days ago but still no luck with windows updates... I've been looking at logs from updates and pcs log and there is some funky stuff going on...

horse.gif Well I think one of my post was taken out for not posting logs but I could have swore that the information said don't post logs until asked to do so... offtopic.gif Well here is a Trend macros log of hijack and the second one is a start-up... Since I first posted I had no response and was left with no alternative but to reinstall a new O/S... Well I did that using the Toshiba system restore to factory settings and even threw in a repartition because I am going to get my Linux on... I need heavy duty security,,, icon_luke.gif I have 250h/d I cut windows to 140 and have a free at 100, I could use suggestions as the 2004 library book for snort is a little outdated... offtopic.gif So back to the issue I noticed some volume shadow copies on my clean install, oh and I upgraded to a version of 7 I had not been using since first restore back to factory Vista. offtopic.gif I tend to handle scary names with the utmost caution so of course I nuked them medieval.gif as a CyberWarrior would... axesmiley.png Of course I pushed shift along with r/c delete but no this inbred cyberwaste some how manages to make an ini file stick to desktop, I'm starting to see allot of familiar things in documents so I apparently I didn't finish the job on this pest, Someone please have A look at my logs and if something doesn't sit right with you I will be eager to even do another reinstall which is what I am trying to not do so much of nowadays...

Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

Hi uptownj,

Welcome to BleepingComputer Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs Forum. welcome.gif
My name is sundavis, I will be helping you to deal with your Malware problems today.

Most likely, this issue isn't malware related. Anyway, let's try to troubleshoot this problem.

Go to this thread to make sure you have performed the right uninstallation of Hotspot Shield Toolbar.

Open the Start Menu, Click on All Programs, Accessories, and on Command Prompt, type CMD, and hit Enter. Type the following bolded command into Command Prompt one at a time and press enter.

sc delete HssSrv

sc delete HssTrayService

Click the Start button to view the Start Menu and then choose the Control Panel option. Click on the System and Security>>Device Manager>>click View>>check Show Hidden Devices. -Scroll down to Network Adapters>>click to drill down to TAP VPN Adapter>>right click on it and select disable on your device manager if found.

After that, please go to your network properties Uncheck Hotshield (TAP VPN Adapter) if found. Go to this thread if you don't know how.

Start Firefox click Tools > Options. Under Main click the Manage Add-ons button at the bottom and Disable or Uninstall the Browser Highlighter add-on. Close FF and restart it.

If still not working, uninsntall FF completely including FF folder and reinstall it.

Let me know if you still need further assistance. thumbup2.gif

Thanks but no I don't see hotspot anymore and to be honest the last couple days have been nonproblematic. I have a load of adapters but not the one. So you must think my system partition did the job???
rip_1.gif The only thing is I'm seeing allot of files pre partition and it doesn't make since, they just appear on my desk top... I have been monitoring my ports and notice allot of over 5grand's being used so maybe I''m just parinoid... Thanks for the help man I appreciate it.
