Finally installed Win7 (upgrade) and it won't activate. Says the product key is wrong, no matter how many times I've put it in and it's right.

Got 2 copies of the upgrade last year when you could pick them up for $49, and got them from a good website online.

What's the next option?

Sometimes people get confused over letters in the product key. They mistake an o for a 0 or a B for an 8. That sort of thing. Check yours or have a friend look at it and see if they are seeing if differently.

Even though they are pretty hard to read, am also pretty good at deciphering the letters and numbers.

MS can make certain keys not activated at any point in time. Where did you get this software from?

Amazon.com, got it last year when all the sites were selling them for that price (early renewal).

Thanks, went through this process, it sent me to a technician with Microsoft and they found out the product keys were wrong in my Win 7 boxes. They had to generate new product keys for both Win 7 copies I had, because both were wrong. Wrote the new ones down, and installed it with them on the phone.

All is well! Ask him why something like this could happen and he basically didn't know. Said sometimes they get shipped with wrong product keys.

Glad you got things solved, were you actually doing an upgrade or were you doing a clean install on a fresh partition? If you were doing a clean install on a fresh partition using an upgrade, you actually have to install twice to get the key recognized.
