My computer has been struck with the dreaded Blue Screen of Death. It is a reoccurring problem and only seems to happen when no one is using the computer. It always reboots properly, and I do a virus scan every day (with ESET). It says:

"A problem has been deteceted and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer
KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR"

The STOP Code is:
0x0000007A (0x0000000000000020, 0xFFFFFFFFC000009D, 0XFFFFFA8005BDD078, 0X0000000000000000)

How do I fix this?

Double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

There is no reason to update drivers in bunches, since we don't know, if there is anything wrong with a single driver.
Drivers shouldn't be updated without a reason.

With the information you have provided I believe you will need help from the malware removal team. I would like you to start a new thread and post a DDS log HERE and include a link to this thread. Please make sure that you read the information about getting started before you start your thread.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient. Help is on the way!

I beg to differ. Update drivers to alleviate software issues then go from there. Lots of blue screen errors that I have solved has been due to poor drivers that were either corrupted or were bad from the get go. Updating drivers is always the first step in any troubleshooting regarding blue screens.

In the above log, there is no single driver listed, so which one do you suggest to update?

volmgrx.sys - is probably related to the sound card driver. Hardware Miscommunications with poor drivers can cause BSOD's related to the Kernel happens in Linux with a bad driver it just core dumps then kernel panics.

volmgrx.sys is not a sound card driver, but a native Windows file - Windows volume manager extension driver. You can't update Windows driver unless it comes with some Windows update.
Then, we have 18 dump files, 17 of them listing ntoskrnl.exe as the culprit with two types of errors:
KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION
In my opinion, it's either some infection, or RAM issue.
We have to start somewhere, so I sent the OP to malware forum.

Here is what I found:

This is the Dynamic Volume Manager driver. It extension of the volume manager driver that manages software RAID volumes (spanned, striped, mirrored, RAID-5) on dynamic disks.

Volmgrx.sys is a 32/64-bit executable that requires no direct user interface.

It is probably BSODing due to outdated drivers I would start there first before suspecting any kind of malware.

Firstly, I don't know, if you read my reply...

we have 18 dump files, 17 of them listing ntoskrnl.exe as the culprit

Secondly, what "outdated drivers" are you referring to?

In any case, I voiced my opinion and I see no reason to argue back and forth, so let's leave it to the OP. Whatever he'll decide, it's fine with me.
Bed time for me anyway.
Good Night

I think updating the drivers will help. My boyfriend upgraded my computer from Vista to Windows 7 (he's very good with computers, so he knew what he was doing) and now that I think about it, I'm remembering that he had to leave before he could update my drivers. My computer is a touch screen and a couple of the features haven't been working since Windows 7 was installed; hopefully updating the drivers is the answer! I will restart my computer, leave it up overnight, and check if the BSOD decides to visit once again. If it does, I will post a thread for the malware removal team tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

I would have to agree with cryptodan here. It could be malware or it could just be drivers. It could even be both. The quickest and easiest thing to do is just update all available drivers. Then you can rule that out as a possible cause. If the problem is not solved, THEN go digging for malware. You would hate to send the original poster chasing their tail for non-existent malware, only to realize it was just simply an out-of-date/incorrect driver. It can take days or even weeks to be declared clean after the first AII post is made. Drivers should always be updated anyway. If/when the poster is sent to the malware forum, the responder is going to want to know if the poster updated their drivers yet (the first thing that should be done when diagnosing BSOD's).

That's my 2 cents.

Good luck, embeeezy.

It could also boil down to OS incompatibility, I have seen this issue happen with Linux. Itll Kernel Panic if it finds a piece of hard it doesn't like. and a BSOD in ntoskernel is a generic kernel panic.

I haven't seen the BSOD at all today after updating all of my drivers. If it appears again, I will refer back to this topic. Thank you all for your help! (:
