Hi, I've had problems with my Dell 9400 laptop a couple years ago, but was able to remove several malicious items and it has run clean ever since.....until now. I have tried to open yahoo mail and a few other sites for over a week now and my sessions"time out" every time. I have good wireless internet connection and seem to be able to surf the web without any slow downs or problems other than that. The last several days I have tried to download a free-ware program and my computer "times out" again. I currently run IObit Security 360 scans and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scans without anything malicious found. I realized today when I tried to open and run a scan with Advanced System Care 3 that the file was "missing". The icon was still on my desktop, but when clicked a message came up that there was not a file. One of the previous problems I had over a year ago involved a keylogger and I am concerned I might be having the same problem again...I would like some peace of mind that my computer is not being monitored and if needed remove whatever program/problem that is slowing my computers access to my mail or other selective sites. Then close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix Checked.
Restart your PC.



2. We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

3. Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here.
  • Extract the contents of the zipped file to the desktop.
  • Double click GMER.exe and if you are asked if you want to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please allow it to do so.
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan, please click on NO.
  • In the right panel you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following the following checkboxes:
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Now click on the Scan button and wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in ark.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Post the contents of that report when you reply.

2. Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here.
  • Extract the contents of the zipped file to the desktop.
  • Double click GMER.exe and if you are asked if you want to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please allow it to do so.
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan, please click on NO.
  • In the right panel you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following the following checkboxes:
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Now click on the Scan button and wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in ark.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Post the contents of that report when you reply.
