So I am infected with Virus Protector. Having needed to remove a similar issue from my dad's computer a few years ago, I know the basics for how to remove (safe mode w/ networking > scan). Problem is, I can't get into the safe mode (networking or just plain safe mode).

If I open safe mode (plain) it hangs at the last line that is displayed and never continues.

If I open with networking, it comes up with the login screen and shows Administrator and Owner accounts (there is only an administrator account created on my computer). I have selected both, and both log in and then the Virus Protector's fake screen fills the entire window. I can alt+f4 it away but nothing else comes up and the popups start. I cannot Alt+tab it out (didn't expect that to work) and when I cntrl+alt+del it tells me that it has been disabled by the admin (uuuhh.....nope) it says that in owner and admin.

I am Running windows XP.

So, where do I go from here.

Not trying to bump, but there is a bit more information.

I am unable to turn the computer on in any mode at all. Even entering in "normal" mode just has the fake program start up and block me from doing anything. Cntrl+alt+del is still disabled here.

The only thing I know of that does this is a registry hack, but I really have no clue how to fix it as I cannot even start the computer to run any scans.
