Hello all! My computer has been hijacked for awhile now, but since I've been so busy with scholastic obligations and I have access to another computer (laptop), this one has been neglected. I fear in all this time, things have gotten worse as my computer crashes more often than it used to, runs programs slowly, and I can't start up IE or Firefox unless its open with a pop-up window. I've run Adaware, CWShredder and Ewido, but the problem still persists. Please help!

Hello Phandral and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. It appears that there is alot of information missing from this log. We need a complete HijackThis (HJT) log file to be able to analyze what is happening on your computer.

Boot normally, start HijackThis and click the Do a system scan and save a log button to perform a scan and create a log file. When the scan is complete, Notepad will open up with the log file in it. While in Notepad, press Ctrl-A to select all text and then Ctrl-C to copy the text to the clipboard.

POST the log in this thread using the Add Reply button. Click in the data-entry window and press Ctrl-V to paste the log into the window. Add any other comments which you believe might be helpful in our analysis. and click the Add Reply button.

I will review your log when it comes in.

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL I CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

OT
I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.

Hi!

Thank you for responding so quickly. The following is my new HiJackThis file, however, I'm not sure what files are missing because this log appears to have the same information as the previous one... but then again, I'm obviously no expert. I had to run this log in Safe Mode, because my system has gotten so bad, I can't even run Windows long enough to get to my HijackThis folder without it crashing on me.

Hi Phandral. According to the log you machine isn't even running. Let's check the options.

Start HijackThis and click on the Open the Misc Tools section button. Click on the Main button at the top. In the checkboxes make sure that all of the following are checked:Make backups before fixing items
Confirm fixing & ignoring of items (safe mode)
Ignore non-standard but safe domains in IE (e.g. msn.com,microsoft.com)
Include list of running processes in log files

Ok, now click the Back button and run a new scan. Post the new log back here and I will review it when it comes in.

Cheers.

Hi Phandral. It looks like the log was run from Safe Mode but I tink we can get started anyway. make sure when you run HijackThis that you are doing so from a normal bootup.

Ok, please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

It looks like you already have ewido security suite installed. Update the program and then close it. Do not run it yet.

Step #2

Download nailfix.zip and unzip it to its own folder.

Step #3

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Step #4

Navigate to the folder you unzipped nailfix.zip into and double-click on nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Step #5

Start ewido and do the following:
  • Click on the Scanner button.
  • Click on the Complete System Scan.
  • If anything is found you will be prompted to clean the first infected file found. Choose Clean and put a checkmark in the checkbox for Perform action on all infections and click the Ok button to continue the scan.
  • When the scan is complete close ewido and reboot the computer normally.
Step #6

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.yoursearchspace.com/sp2.php
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\WINDOWS\system32\Searchx.htm
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.yoursearchspace.com/sp2.php
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {7E06AEC9-4E5A-56F5-6F9A-40A80BAD8887} - C:\WINDOWS\Mvqontqj.dll
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System service62] C:\WINDOWS\etb\pokapoka62.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System service66] C:\WINDOWS\etb\pokapoka66.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System service63] C:\WINDOWS\etb\pokapoka63.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Access] C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gsihqe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\nmayvu.exe r
O4 - Global Startup: tnkd.exe
O4 - Global Startup: winlogin.exe
O16 - DPF: {99410CDE-6F16-42ce-9D49-3807F78F0287} (ClientInstaller Class) - http://www.180searchassistant.com/180saax.cab
O20 - Winlogon Notify: MediaContentIndex - C:\WINDOWS\system32\lpnkinfo.dll
O23 - Service: Command Service (cmdService) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\SWFuIFMuIEZvc3RlcgAA\command.exe
O23 - Service: Windows Overlay Components - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\dzjills.exe (file missing)

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #7

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\WINDOWS\system32\Searchx.htm
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nmayvu.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lpnkinfo.dll
C:\WINDOWS\Mvqontqj.dll
C:\WINDOWS\dzjills.exe
C:\WINDOWS\etb\ <--folder
C:\WINDOWS\SWFuIFMuIEZvc3RlcgAA\ <--folder
C:\Program Files\Media Access\ <--folder

Now search for these files and delete all instances. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.tnkd.exe
winlogin.exe

Step #8

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

Hi, Old Timer, I will try this out...but the critical thing is...my computer is so screwed up, it will only run during Safe Mode. When I try to run it normally, WinPatrol takes over and while it starts giving me its alerts, my computer immediately freezes up.

Hi Phandral. Some of it's gone but this machine is still quite heavily infected. We will need to remove these in phases.

Let's re-run the nail fix and then see what we have left.

Step #1

Print these directions or copy/paste them into a Notepad document and save it to your desktop. Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.
  • Download l2mfix.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click l2mfix.exe to start the installation.
  • Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts.
  • Open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
  • Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing the Enter key.
  • Press any key to reboot your computer.
After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, Notepad will open with a log. Post that log along with any additional information as directed below.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Step #2

WinXP Remove Service batch

Open Notepad and Copy/Paste the contents of the quote box below into the new document:

@ECHO OFF
cd\windows
sc config cmdService start= disabled
sc stop cmdService
sc delete cmdService
attrib -s -r -h C:\WINDOWS\SWFuIFMuIEZvc3RlcgAA\command.exe
del C:\WINDOWS\SWFuIFMuIEZvc3RlcgAA\command.exe
exit

Save the document to your desktop as rservice.bat and close Notepad. Locate the rservice.bat file on your desktop and double-click on it to run the batch file.

Step #3

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Step #4

Navigate to the folder where nailfix.cmd is a double-click on it to run it.

Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

O20 - Winlogon Notify: Themes - C:\WINDOWS\system32\lpnkinfo.dll
O23 - Service: Command Service (cmdService) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\SWFuIFMuIEZvc3RlcgAA\command.exe

  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\WINDOWS\SWFuIFMuIEZvc3RlcgAA\ <--folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lukhpd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\uapnpr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sesdtc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lpnkinfo.dll
C:\Program Files\E2G\ <--folder

Now search for these files and delete all instances. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.tnkd.exe
winlogin.exe

Step #8

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.
