I have this problem too. This is a pretty nasty program. I have no idea how I was infected, I didn't download anything. It blocks any new applications from starting, including the task manager. It also clears the settings for what programs run on startup, blocks internet explorer from working (it doesn't matter really, except that it makes you unable to update malwarebytes), and it makes google redirect to advertisements.

I would be screwed except that I had task manager already running at the time of infection, so it allowed me to end the program and run malwarebytes.

Now everything is back to normal except for the redirecting. How do I go about fixing this?

A more detailed description of what happens:

When I hover my mouse over a link in google, it will show the proper link hxxp://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=2... etc), but then when I click the link it will instead take me straight to a random website (such as xxtp://modernauction.com/search.php). These websites do not seem to be malicious, and they will all redirect to another website, which will redirect to another one, and after about 4 redirects it will reach a website with some ads. All of these sites seem to be for sale and if you navigate to them by typing it into the address bar, it doesn't redirect.

It will only happen sometimes. When it doesn't, google will work normally.

I'm not certain but it seems to only happen in firefox. I tried for a while to get it to happen in internet explorer and it didn't work, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't happen in it as well.

It seems like it might be going through a proxy which is redirecting me, but it could be something else. I do not think it is the hosts file because it only happens sometimes.

Sorry if my writing is annoying to read, I'm not very good at putting my ideas down in writing.
