Alright, I have been working on a pc for hours finally got it into windows xp pro etc. Got it ready to go. But now the dang machine will not allow the ps/2 mouse to work.

Does anybody know the solution to this porblem?

I can give the specs of the pc, but not really sure on all of them as it is an older machine.

Look in the Device Manger and see if the PS/2 mouse is being detected.
If so then Right Click>Remove>Restart and see if it will reload the correct drivers from the Driver Cache.

Device Manager:
Right Click My Computer>Properties>Hardware Tab>Device Manager Button
