Hello.
I unfortunately clicked on a link on Facebook that looked like a friend's You Tube video that I have now learned is a virus. I have run through the all the steps in the Preparation Guide and am still having issues like opening Control Panel. I have also tried to run a scan with my antivirus software Trend Micro and the computer will not open the program. It seems like every time I restart I loose the ability to use programs.
I first detected the problem when I had a false Windows Explorer window open regarding security and saying I had a bunch of viruses, etc on the computer. I knew it was false window and that is when I came here for help.

Below is the DDS txt and I have attached the Attach.txt for your review.

Thank you in advance for your help!
Michelle

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

Please include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Please refrain from running tools or applying updates other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

Even if you have already provided information about your PC, we need a new log to see what has changed since you originally posted your problem.
We need to create an OTL Report
  1. Please download OTL from one of the following mirrors:
  2. Save it to your desktop.
  3. Double click on the icon on your desktop.
  4. Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  5. In the custom scan box paste the following:
    CODE
    netsvcs
    msconfig
    safebootminimal
    safebootnetwork
    activex
    drivers32
    %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles
    /md5start
    eventlog.dll
    scecli.dll
    netlogon.dll
    cngaudit.dll
    sceclt.dll
    ntelogon.dll
    logevent.dll
    iaStor.sys
    nvstor.sys
    atapi.sys
    IdeChnDr.sys
    viasraid.sys
    AGP440.sys
    vaxscsi.sys
    nvatabus.sys
    viamraid.sys
    nvata.sys
    nvgts.sys
    iastorv.sys
    ViPrt.sys
    eNetHook.dll
    ahcix86.sys
    KR10N.sys
    nvstor32.sys
    ahcix86s.sys
    nvrd32.sys
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
  6. Push the button.
  7. Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:
    • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Extra.txt<--Will be minimized

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. I suggest you do this and select Immediate E-Mail notification and click on Proceed. This way you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.

regards myrti

is that a bird?  a plane? nooo it's the flying blueberry!

If I have been helping you and haven't replied in 2 days, feel free to shoot me a PM! Please don't send help request via PM, unless I am already helping you. Use the forums!

Hello
Thank you for your reply.
Below are the OTL Reports for your review.
I am still having the problem I first reported. Specifcally, I clicked on a You Tube link from Facebook and I started to get false antivirus software reports that I was unprotected, etc. I followed the steps on the Prep Guide for Malware Removal Malwarebytes removed a few infected files. However the problem is not fixed.
For example:
(1) I am running Vista, but my task bar looks like Windows ME.
(2) I cannot run my virus software Trend Micro- it won't open the icon.
(3) I have no Audio-it says the audio sound service is not enabled.

The computer is just not running as its usual self before clicking the link.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Michelle

Hi,

please let me know which files you deleted.

Please also run a scan with Malwarebytes:
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link
If you have a previous version of MBAM, remove it via Add/Remove Programs and download a fresh copy.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.
  • Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. Alternatively, you can update through MBAM's interface from a clean computer, copy the definitions (rules.ref) located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from that system to a usb stick or CD and then copy it to the infected machine.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.

Hi,

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Please click this link-->Jotti

When the jotti page has finished loading, click the browse button and navigate to the files listed below in bold, then click Submit. You will only be able to have one file scanned at a time.

C:\Windows\SysNative\irmon.dll or C:\windows\system32\irmon.dll
C:\Windows\SysNative\wmi.dll or C:\windows\system32\wmi.dll

Please post back the results of the scan in your next post.

If Jotti is busy, try the same at Virustotal: http://www.virustotal.com/

hi,

Quick question before I do the scan. I cannot open Control Panel to show hidden files. It seems like the malware is blocking me from opening it.
Is there another way to access it?
Should I proceed anyway?
Thank you
Michelle

Hi.
I was able to get into contorl panel when I restarted in SafeMode.

The only file in the list of 4 that I was able to find on the computer is c:\windows\system32\wmi.dll
I can see the file C:\windows\system32\irmon.dll on my computer when I look in the c drive, but when I try to browse in JOtti I cannot locate it?

Thanks.

Michelle

Hi.
I manually typed the file name in C:\windows\system32\irmon.dll and it tells me the file is empty?

I'mnot sure what to do next.

Hi,
Sorry I didn't realize you posted a different file.

That search worked. Here is a copy of the results- nothing found.

Hi,

I don't see any sign of active malware, however the problems you are currently having may be caused by leftovers. Do you remember if those problems started with the infection or maybe if they appeared a little later after running removing files with your tools?

Please run the following batch:

Open Notepad and copy/paste the code box below into a new text file.
CODE
@echo off
swreg query hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services /s |(
SED -r "/^HK|^ +ImagePath.*-k netsvcs/I!d" |(
SED -r ":a; $!N;s/\n.*\t.*/\t/;ta;P;D" |(
SED -r "/.*\\(.*)\t/!d; s//\1/"
)))>Log.txt
Start Notepad Log.txt
  • Save the file as regquery.bat by choosing save as *All Files, and save it to your Desktop.
  • Locate "regquery.bat" and right-click to select run as administrator. (It is important that you run the script from the drive where your operating system is installed).
  • It will open a text file, please copy the content in your next reply.

Hello.
Yes I noticed most of the problems after I went through all the removal tools.
I tried to run the batch file, but when I click either on the icon or right click Run as Administratior a black window appears quickly then disappears. I've let the computer sit for a few minutes in case it was working "behind the scenes" but nothing is happening?

Hi,

Do you know which tool you ran before the problems appeared? Do you still have the log for it?
the "black window" is the whole deal, however it should be opening a logfile for you afterwards.

Please try the following batch instead:
CODE
@echo off
swreg query hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services /s |(
SED -r "/^HK|^ +ImagePath.*-k netsvcs/I!d" |(
SED -r ":a; $!N;s/\n.*\t.*/\t/;ta;P;D" |(
SED -r "/.*\\(.*)\t/!d; s//\1/"
)))>"%temp%Log.txt"
"%temp%\Log.txt"

Let me know if a log opens.
