Hello there, I have been using wired networking between my main computer and the family one for many years now. In addition to this, my main computer also has an additional ethernet card from which I run another cable to either my other pc or to my laptop, I chop and change it quite regularly. Recently I decided to bit the bullet and buy 2 Wireless network cards for my main PC and my other PC (my laptop already has it built in) thus leaving only a wired connection between my main pc and my family one.

All was going well except that now for some reason, my family pc can not access the internet at all, although it says it is still connected to the high speed Lan though the Speedtouch connection (My broadband provider).

All the other client PC's can access the internet, including the wireless ones which are now working fine.

I have gone through all the settings on the family pc, ensuring that everything is set up correctly, adding the gateway of 192.68.0.1 and letting it choose automatically the ip address for me...i have tried specifying it as well to no avail.......I am totally stuck...I can not think of anything else that I can do because I seem to have exhasusted all things.

I have tried using a dial up connection on the Family computer to AOL which DOES CONNECT HOWEVER......for some reason...the internet can STILL NOT be accessed, ie...internet explorer will not work, and AOLS own software will not display any web pages, although it will allow me to check my email.....HELP ME PLEAASE

I AM TOTALLY STUCK AND THE REST OF MY FMAILY ARE PRETTY UNHAPPY ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO USE THE PC FOR EMAILS....I NEED SOME IDEAS PLEASE...MANY THANKS

Have you tried to re-run the Network Connection Wizard?

so, just to keep it straight, you have a router correct? you are able to get an ip, are you able to see the other computers in your network? my computer>my network places>workgroup computers.

if all this is correct, please go to this link, download the "xp socket fix", copy it to your desktop, run it, reboot and try it. let me know how you make out.

this should do it.
