i havent turned my cpu on for a few months. so i turn it on, hook back up to the net and start updating my virus protection and important windows updates.

there was like 150 important updates so i left it on overnight in the morning it said that some had failed. then more updates appeard and it seems everytime i turn on my cpu theres another 30 updates waiting, but the problem is that sum dont install and when prompted to restart, i get a message saying windows failed to start a recent software change may have caused this bla bla bla please insert vista disc to repair your machine bla bla bla.

im wondering, is it possible i have some virus thats mucking everything up or is my hardrive or something starting to fail and need to be replaced?

im about to actually just give up and throw the whole thing in the bin haha.
